Lauren Bousfield - Locked Into Phantasy [2012]

"The Ropes Our Nights Were Laid Across, Pulled Taut"
Another  release with some breakcore elements inline with my previous review of Rossz Csillag Allat Született. Like the previous release, the sound of this EP can be slightly abrasive and hard hitting but there are quite a few nice melodies dispersed into the songs.
The first track has nice catchy melody overlaying some powerful beats and glitch elements. The slower paced piano in, "That Was Everything I Owned", was a nice reprieve from the more hard hitting tracks. I also really enjoyed the strings from "Locked Into Phantasy" and "The Ropes Our Nights Were Laid Across, Pulled Taut". As you guys may know from my Saltillo review, I really like strings + electronic beats. Another thing I really enjoyed about this EP was the glitched out/pitch shifted vocals. There are some nice melodies created with just those alone. The whole EP has a poppy sort of feel and most of the breakcore elements are pretty tame and subdued. This would probably be a good point to get introduced to the genre if other artists seem too harsh.

This EP was good, I enjoyed the breakcore and glitch elements, even if they weren't as brain blasting as other artists. I thought the strings, piano and vocal effects added a nice sound to the tracks and made them catchy. [7.5/10]

Listen!
