BATS - The Sleep of Reason [2012]

"Present day and the myth still lingers."
Only discovered BATS early in 2012 and enjoyed their first release, however I had no idea new album was going to be released. I stumbled across The Sleep of Reasons and I really enjoyed it.
I'm a huge post-hardcore fan but I have a hard time pinpointing exactly what I like. BATS is like a fusion of post-hardcore and math rock and the result is great. Although I'm not huge into the math rock scene, This Town Needs Guns is one of my favorite bands. So I got the best of both worlds here. The instrumentation is fantastic and the vocals are sick. I'm pretty persnickety about vocals but this release really delivers. Great clean vocals mixed with the screams and the lyrics are heavily related with science which ends up being a plus for me. One of the stand out tracks for me is the eponymous, The Sleep of Reasons, it's just so energetic and gets me pumped. [8.5/10]
